scrap installed items

Forum|alt.badge.img+9

We use Sales Orders to deliver new hardware to the customer site, so after shipping, the hardware is in the Installed Base of that site.

When doing renewals, we have also to remove scrapped hardware from the site. Therefor we create a Customer Return and wanted to scrap those items on Receive.

The Scrapped option is in the drop down list of the item in de Receiving

But we cannot select that option, this message pops up

How can we “easily” scrap items from the Installed items following a logisitc process?

Hi Piet,

As noted by Andrew, a service order is normally used to remove the item which following through the normal return process will result in an internal material order which then is used to create the ship list.  The error message does indicate the item can only be scrapped by receiving as a result of a ship list.

Have you tried using the Astea standard import template Installed Item(Delete) which would avoid using the customer return functionality to remove the items?  I don’t know if this would serve the purpose you are trying to achieve as there is not a logistic process, the Items would be deleted. While a customer return is to return items to stock (along with perhaps crediting customer).

Please take a look at this to see if this is a simpler way for you to remove installed items? Required data is Product ID, Serial Number, Site ID and optionally Item Status which I suppose you can populate with the value for scrapped items.

Hi Piet,

One thing I can think of is to create a Service Order against the installed item. Then create a material line and set the disposition to “Uninstall”. You can then enter the return information, and a message will pop-up asking to move the item to the removed items module. Maybe another way would be to create an RA and upon completing the RA, set the disposition to Scrapped.

I hope this helps.

Thanks,
Andrew

Hi Andrew, in the solution you propose, we have to uninstall item by item, which is a manual job to be executed one by one. This will be very time consuming if we have to uninstall +20 items.

We hoped with the Customer Return to be able to scrap multiple items at once while doing the receive.

Why is the option available in the selection drop down, while it is not possible to use this?
