we frequently run into issues when we need to update a project connection; once a customer order is already released due to this error message.
Has anyone found a way to making changes to get around this error message?.
The need to update is due to the wrong activity having been selected by the user in error.

Hi @MaggieDP,
As the message says, you cannot disconnect the customer order line object once it is released. It is not simple to disconnect this now because when you are Releasing the customer order it actually updates number of records, such as pre-posting the project account details like M103 and M104. So, when disconnecting it is not really easy to reverse all of these updated values.
To rectify the user’s mistake, I believe you will have to Cancel the Order Line and re-enter the same line (by duplicating).
For the new line user can Connect the correct Activity this time.
@MaggieDP As Tharindu explained in his answer, the project connections cannot be updated once the CO is released. He already outlined the action that can be taken. But I know it is very time consuming.
Using incorrect activities are quite common. This often comes up in the implementation projects from the users too. Please raise as an Idea as well in https://community.ifs.com/ideas
There should be a way to modify the connected activities. Of course there can be limitations but at least this should be possible just after the CO is released (Committed state), at least.
Thanks for the reply @Buddhika Kurera and @Tharindu Illangasinghe
I created an idea as you suggested, would appreciate your help getting it upvoted !
