Hi.

Our technicians often start work from home and therefore to adhere to our data privacy obligations I would like to mask the GPS address data for a few minutes after accepting a mobile service job. Is this possible through Geofencing and if so how would this be setup in FSM? If not, what other solutions exist without switching off GPS

Regards

Keith

Hi Keith,

I’ve been discussing this question with Lee and I agree in that to mask the GPS will be a big task.

However, there may be a work around.  There is an app param called GPS_LOCATION_INTERVAL_WORK_STATUS which determines when GPS details are recorded.  If you do not want GPS details to be recorded at an engineers home they can stay ‘OFF SHIFT’ until the reach site/first call of the day, once they change the status of one of their tasks this will effectively set them as ‘ON SHIFT’ and will then start to record the GPS details.

Hi @PirtekKH,

The difficulty here is that the system would need to be tracking the GPS to know that the mobile user had left their home area in order to know when to turn the GPS on or off which would then defeat the purpose.

The Geofencing is more intended to trigger actions based off the mobile users location such as changing status to onsite when they get within a certain distance of the customer location for instance rather than to mask information.

You may be able to set up some custom functionality to activate GPS tracking and stop it based off of some non-location based trigger such as, perhaps, the user accepting their first task of the day or setting the last to complete. This would potentially be a large, complex change though which would likely require Consulting assistance.

Kind regards,

Hi @PirtekKH,

When on the Geofence screen you can use the question mark at the top right to open up the help for this area of the system. This will give a basic overview of the area, how to set up and what app params control this system.

This help document is a good starting point for any area of the system you may be new to but interested in.

Kind regards,

Lee Pinchbeck
