Question

Mix up of serial number

Forum|alt.badge.img+11

Hi,

We have a mix up of serial numbers. 2 Parts with the same part number, however the the first one should have the serial number of the second one and vice versa. We cannot just physically change them, the serial numbers are engraved and have different wear (they came back from the client under a RMA)

How can this be changed? Rename serial doesn’t work as the serials were allready created in the Part Serial catalog.

I’m afraid there is no solution for this? Does anyone know a workaround?

Hi,

I found a kind of work around. Please check if this works for you.
Lets say you have 2 serials A and B with same part number.
1. Rename serial A to A-1
2. Rename serial A-1 to A-2 (you need to rename twice, otherwise it will generate an error after step 5 )
3. Rename serial B to serial B-1
4. Rename serial B-1 to serial B-2
5. Delete part serial records of A & B (now it is possible)
6. Rename serial B-2 to A
7. Rename serial A-2 to B
8. Optional - Remove part serial records A-1, A-2, B-1, B-2

Please note you should not have any open orders which use serials A & B.
