Question

Using Availability Control ID to control reservations

Forum|alt.badge.img+7

We are having difficulty making the AVAILABILITY CONTROL ID work as expected.  We created a AVAILABILITY_CONTROL_ID that should stop any inventory from being placed on an order but it only works sometimes.

We also do not want that inventory location showing up to be used on the Manual Reservations for Shipment screen.  We have users that will take the inventory from wherever the system lets them.

Please help.

Hi @clint1028

Can you screen shot the setting you are using against your Part Availability Control, these are ours from IFS Cloud (they haven’t changed from Apps9 so I’m assuming similar to Apps10)

As you can see BOND stock for ourselves means it can not be on an order, reserved, issued. It can be scrapped, counted and moved location. The help fields here are good also.

Hi @clint1028,

Hope the following are business requirements, and I understood correctly.

  1. Availability Control ID linked with a specific location to prevent manual reservation only not automatic.
  2. Availability Control ID linked with the location and business users is still able to perform manual reservation.

First, an Availability Control ID is created with Part Manual Reservation Control set to Not Manual Reservation.

Availability Control ID should be linked with the Location, e.g.

In addition to the above setup, please ensure the Availability Control ID is linked with the existing stock available on this location.

The above setup would not allow manual reservations to business users.

Hi @clint1028 , you’ve got it. With those current setting users can manually reserve and issue stock. Glad I could help.

Thanks for the responses on this.

@Abdul

Had a new question come up on this.  For the same inventory location that we do not want Manual reservations available on Customer Order’s we do want to be able to Manual reserve from that same location for a Repair Shop order.

The inventory location basically serves as a spare part area for repair’s.  We would never want these to Auto or Manual reserve on a Customer Order.

We would like to be able to use the parts on the Shop Order.

Is this doable through a Availability Control?

Hi @clint1028,

No, it is not doable through Availability Control. Availability Controls would be applicable universally for all types of stock consumption sources.

Alternatively, you can change your location type to Floor Stock. Inventory Stock available on Floor Stock type location would only be available for Manufacturing processes only.

Hope this helps.

@clint1028 - the way I would approach this is by inventory location groups and set the location as not picking but floor stock.

From the help pages.

Floor Stock: A floor stock is used to store parts that are going to be used in the manufacturing process. Parts in this location type can only be reserved from a manufacturing order.

As it is a manufacturing order not sure if it would work with a repair order but would be worth testing.

The availability control I think would not work in the situation you have.

Hope that helps Sarah
