Hi all,

 

What is the Synchronize Application Search Index doing?

We had run the Optimize Application Search Index in a test environment, which took around 2 hours to execute. There after we ran the Synchronize one, but that one took forever and we needed to kill it.

What exactly is being synchronized and to what?

Synchronizing builds an Oracle Text index. This picks up new, changed, or removed documents. This is like rebuilding the index from a business perspective.

Optimizing rebuilds the index. This is like performing a defrag on the Oracle files on disk. This is mostly relevant from a technical perspective.

As a bit of trivia, this was first used in LCS in the early 2000:s when I added that for Knowledge Search :grinning:
