When we went from IFS 9 to IFS 10, we were required to install a deprecated java print agent in order to use the socket spooler to send .zpl labels to our Zebra printers.

We’re getting ready to upgrade to the latest version of IFS Cloud.
What is the solution for .zpl label printing in IFS Cloud?

Hi @djsteiger ,

In IFS Cloud, the old Java Print Agent is replaced by the new IFS Cloud Print Agent. I have hands-on experience setting this up in IFS Cloud 24R2 on-premise environment.

For general ZPL label printing, the Print Agent handles the communication between IFS Cloud and local printers. Installation and configuration is done through the IFS Cloud use place environment settings.

However, for the specific Zebra ZPL socket configuration details, could you share:

  • Which IFS Cloud version are you upgrading to?
  • Are you on cloud-hosted or on-premise deployment?

Happy to help with the Print Agent setup and debugging side if you hit any issues there!

Hi @djsteiger,

In IFS Cloud, the old Java print agent is replaced by the .NET Based Print Agent, but the concept remains similar. You still install a local Print Agent (Windows-based) near the Zebra printers, and this agent handles communication between IFS and the physical printers.

For ZPL printing, the key point is that socket spooling is still supported in the .NET Based Print Agent, so you can continue sending raw .zpl directly to Zebra printers without converting to PDF.

In short, the solution in IFS Cloud is to use the .NET Based Print Agent with socket spooling enabled, replacing the deprecated Java agent while keeping the same ZPL printing approach.

Note: From IFS Cloud 22R1 onwards, you need to have relevant logical printers mapped in print agent configuration to print using socket spooler.

Refer to the following IFS documentation for more information on socket spooling:

@ashen_malaka_ranasinghe

Thank you for confirming and clarifying that.
We’re familiar with the .net Print Agent, but in our version of IFS10 the socket spooler functionality is greyed out and not usable.

I’m glad to hear that this functionality exists and works for direct zpl printing in Cloud.
