I created a post ~4.5 years ago about the challenges I was having when transitioning from EE to Aurena. In that post I listed many EE functions which were missing in Aurena. There were many positive replies with ideas / workarounds / alternatives which was great to see (the IFS Community working exactly as is should!).

Here’s a link to that previous post: Aurena Vs Enterprise Explorer | IFS Community

So here we are ~4.5 years later, I thought it might be interesting to re-visit that list, and see what progress has been made...

  1. Start pages – Still don’t exist in Aurena. Custom Elements on Lobbies offer some similar functionality, but there are some limitations and so it’s not quite as versatile as an EE Start Page.
  2. Doc macros – The “Aurena Agent” browser extension enables doc man macros on some Aurena Pages (but not all). Furthermore, I believe the Browser Extension is Windows only, so Doc Macros don’t work when running on non-windows Operating systems)
  3. Structured Docs – Still no method to check-out / check-in a full structure in one go.
  4. Info Cards – No direct equivalent in Aurena, but it is possible to create associations between Projections, and then use Page Designer to add additional data to any IFS Page which achieves much the same result.
  5. Send to college – (In Aurena, we can simply copy the page URL and share that, so no need for an in-system solution really)
  6. Sticky notes – Still no alternative in Aurena (although an IFS Partner Company has recently developed an add-on which provides similar/equivalent functionality)
  7. Go-To-Column – In Aurena, we can use the browsers Ctrl-F (Find) function, so no need for an in-system solution really)
  8. Conditional formatting – This functionality is now available in IFS Cloud Aurena (but not available in Apps 10 Aurena)
  9. Selections – The closest equivalent in Aurena is the “Favourites” function. While it’s not quite as powerful as EE Selections, it prob satisfies most use cases.
  10. Save as template / New from template – Still no alternative in Aurena.
  11. Copy and Paste – Added in Apps 10 and Cloud Aurena, but limited to copy and pasting within the same environment. No ability to copy from Non-Prod and paste into Prod. (there is however a 3rd party solution which solves this limitation - Ref: Techris)
  12. Count Hits – This functionality is now available in Aurena
  13. Advanced search (i.e. group, count, sum, etc) – Still no Group, Sum or Count functions in Aurena
  14. Quick charts – This has been added in IFS Cloud Aurena (not available in Apps 10 Aurena)
  15. Find and Replace – Still not available in Aurena. (IFS Cloud did add an “Edit All” function, but it’s notably less powerful than EE Find and Replace)
  16. Keyboard navigation (e.g. using cursor up and down in a table view) – Still very limited in Aurena (e.g. still can press cursor down in a table view)
  17. Keyboard shortcuts – Still very limited in Aurena.
  18. Open in new window (via Shift key) – Still no in-system solution, but it’s quite easy to duplicate a browser window which achieves largely the same result)
  19. Save as draft – Still no alternative in Aurena
  20. Font colour for read only and Edited text (via options menu in EE) – Still no equivalent in Aurena
  21. Expand all on Product Structure Graphic screen – Still no alternative in Aurena
  22. System info (context panel in EE) – Replaced by the Aurena Debug console (but it doesn’t have the same “Live field data” that EE System Info panel provided, so isn’t quite as powerful / convenient)
  23. Output channels (context panel in EE) – Aurena allows output to excel which probably fulfils 99% of requirements (but it still doesn’t allow output to HTML or XML as was the case in EE)
  24. Neither field help or page help seem to work – This is fixed in IFS Cloud (not available in Apps 10 Aurena)
  25. Aurena search sometimes gives inconsistent/incomplete results – IFS have applied fixes to specific pages, but there are still some Aurena pages where search returns inconsistent/incorrect results.

I would like to re-ask the same questions I asked ~4.5 years ago…

  • What is your own experience of transitioning from dedicated EE client to the web based Aurena client?
  • Are any items in my above listed incorrect?
  • Do you have any Aurena Tips or Tricks to share?
  • Do you have any advice which might help smooth out the transition?
