How to manage return packaging?

Goods to be shipped can be packed in handling units. These handling units could be disposables, but could also be more valuable packing (from pallets to boxes and containers). How can these more expensive packaging materials be managed? Both in inventory as well as the return from customer?

I don’t think returning package materials is currently supported by IFS standard application design.

However, this functionality is available in ‘ASC’ (Advance supply chain), an IFS Industry extension focused on automotive customers.

With ASC extension, users can define package type (returnable or one-way packing aids) and package ownership (company, customer, supplier, 3rd party etc..).

Further Shipping and receiving Empty packing aids, managing packing aid stocks, handling costs related to packing aids (purchasing, leasing etc.) functionalities are facilitated by ASC.

If you have the rentals module you could create rental lines for zero dollar on your CO and return/end the rental when they've been shipped back

This is a known limitation that we have in the backlog of the core product. Not sure when it will be prioritized.

@Fredrik Johansson LKP do you know if this is available in the newer versions in IFS maybe? :)

*Bump*

Seems there’s no real solution in App9, I guess it’s the same in higher IFS versions as well

Hello, is there any real solution for IFS Cloud?

Thanks

Hi,

Other clients have this same requirement, that does not imply we don’t have some flavor of solution.

Those containers can be rather expensive.   I have seen clients add them to the customer order as if they were an inventory sales part at 0 price.    The return material authorization is then used for the return.   For tracking of what was shipped and what is expected for return, you could create the RMA right after shipping so that you can see what’s expected for return.

It’s not elegant, but it does work.  A better solution would be preferred.

Best regards
