We are facing an issue where items reserved by a Work Order (WO) cannot be packed into a Handling Unit (HU). Our goal is to group these reserved items into a single HU so that we can move them as a whole to the work center.

However, IFS does not allow packing as the items are already reserved for the WO. Canceling the reservation is not an acceptable option due to process constraints.

Question:
What is the recommended way to handle this scenario in IFS? How can we pack reserved items into a HU while keeping the reservation intact and still be able to perform a bulk transfer to the work center?

Hi,

In R&D we are currently working on an initiative to replace the material handling in  work order with the so called centralized reservation (which currently handles Shipment Order, Project Deliverables, Supplier Return, Repair RMA etc). This will be the first internal demand handled by the centralized reservation so this should not end up in the shipment instead be issued from inventory. In the shipment you can do picking into shipment location and then do packing in HU or pack direct in HU at picking. This is strongly connected to shipment by using shipment location and shipment handling unit structure page for packing. It seems like you are asking for something similar but it should end up in normal picking location and there should be a page to pack reservations. We will not look into these aspects in the first version. Anyway interesting to see that there is a need for something like this.

As per now, there is a limitation that you cannot pack reserved material inside inventory (has to be done before reservation). Perhaps you can use the W/D/R No as a workaround to group the Inventory Part in Stock Records? To move the reserved material you can use the transport task.

Best Regards

Fredrik
