Serv Maint - Serial Object Description

Forum|alt.badge.img+6

Hi

Does anyone know if it is possible to provide an alternate description for a Serial Object other than the Mater Part description?

In setting up a new contract, the teams were using a system where the Master Part description is one thing and the Serial Object (Equipment) description was more of their own making.

This is on Apps 9 SP11

Hello @BABPAULS & @Marcel.Ausan - Unfortunately, this functionality is not available in APP9. The Object Description is read-only and is solely updated from the Master Part Description. This setup ensures data integrity, which is a common practice.

However, in your particular situation, adding an extra custom field would serve the purpose.

@BABPAULS you could use the Object Description field in the Serial Object page. That field can be changed independently from the Master Part or Inventory Part.

Many thanks @Marcel.Ausan

I’m not sure if you are referencing Apps 9 or a more recent version of IFS.

We don’t have the Object Description field in our version (I checked in the Properties area and related base views)

Many thanks

@Mayura Wasantha thanks very much. I thought that would be the case, but just needed to check before creating a custom field

Many thanks

Paul
