Issuing material on a project connected work task, project misc demand not showing material issuing

Hi,

I have Project Misc Demand on an Activity, which I used to create and receive material in against a PO. Now I have material within the Project Inventory.

I created a Work Order & Work Task connected to this activity. I then created a Material Req on the Work Task (Supply Code Project Inv) and reserved and issued the part on the Work Task.

I was expecting the Project Misc Demand to also show a quantity issued of 1 but it’s still showing  in Project Misc Demand Issued Quantity of 0.

Is this expected behaviour? Do I need to manually (or automate) the issuing of project misc demand, even if it’s been issued on a connected work task?

Thank you

Hi @Tomalent,

Please note that issuing material on a Work Task does not update the Issued Quantity on the Project Misc. Demand. These are two separate demand/issue processes in IFS, and they do not automatically synchronize from out of the box.

If you want the Project Misc Demand to show an issued quantity, you must issue the Project Misc Demand itself — either manually or via (custom) automation.

In terms of why this happens, you got to understand that IFS treats these as two different demand types, even though they may relate to the same project activity:

1. Project Misc Demand - This represents project-driven material requirements and Issuing it consumes project inventory and as a result updates the project cost. However, it is not tied to Work Orders or Work Tasks

2. Work Task Material Requisition (Supply Code: Project Inv) - Represents maintenance/work-order-driven material requirements. Issuing it consumes project inventory and updates the Work Order cost, however, It does not back‑update the Project Misc Demand

Even though both consume from Project Inventory, they are not linked objects. IFS does not assume that issuing material for a Work Task should satisfy a Project Misc Demand.

If you are looking for a workaround, here’s what you could do.

Option 1 — Issue the Project Misc Demand separately (manual)

If you want the Project Misc Demand to reflect the issue, you must Open the Project Misc Demand and perform the issue of material. This is the standard process.

Option 2 — Automate the synchronization (customization)

I have seen some organizations build a small customization, to auto trigger the Project Misc. Demand when WT materials are issued (based on some other parameters as well).

Option 3 — Don’t use both demand types for the same material (If your business process allows it/makes sense)

As i’ve seen many organizations choose one of these approaches.

Approach 1 — Use Work Tasks only - Create Work Task > Create Material Req. > Issue material

**But do not create Project Misc Demand for the same part

Approach 2 — Use Project Misc Demand only - Create Project Misc Demand > Issue material

**Do not create Work Task Material Reqs for the same part

Using both demand types for the same part creates double demand and double work.

Hope this helps!

Cheers!
