Hi Community,

I was trying to approve a FMEA and getting the error below:

Anybody knows how to fix this and get the FMEA approved? I was unable to find an option to update or calculate the Max Risk Priority Number.

Hi @Abdul,

I was able to figure out the case. The reason has been the old set of data that I have been using. However, after manually updating the controls- detection, RPN was calculated automatically.

Hi @Yathartha Karunananda,

The system automatically calculates RPN (Risk Priority Number). RPN is the product of the Severity, Occurrence, and Detection rankings.

RPN is calculated using the following formula: RPN = Occurrence [of the failure] * Severity [of the effect] * Detection [of the control].

Please refer to the screenshots below to update the values for Occurrence, Severity, and Detection.

Click on Failure Node, define an Effect, and enter a value for Severity under the Effect tab.

Again, for Failure Node, define a Cause, and enter a value for Occurrence under the Cause tab.

Click on the Cause node, create a Control, and enter a value for Detection under the Controls tab.

Once the values for Severity, Occurrence, and Detection are entered, the system will automatically calculate the value for RPN.

Hi @Abdul,

Thanks for the response.

I have already set all those things that you have mentioned above but still I get the error. Is there any basic setting that I might be missing?

Hi @Yathartha Karunananda,

There is no such setup for this.

Can you please share your DFMEA screenshot with the Cause node?

Let’s check whether the system is updating values for Severity, Occurrence, and Detection.

I just updated all three required parameters and approved the FMEA.

Hi @Yathartha Karunananda,

The system should calculate the RPN value in this case since the required conditions are met.

It might be some refresh or cache issue.

I would suggest creating a DFMEA structure afresh and then check, the system behaviour. In case the issue persists, then raise a support ticket.
