​@JKK the resources in the Work Center should be identical. Therefore in theory and the design the tool cannot be shared. You need to treat the tool as a resource. I m just thinking loud without knowing the context, but hope this helps.

We take this solution for consideration but it will be a bit too much resourses.

We are talking about welding operations. We have  1 WC with 4 resourses - 4 welding tables. 

But for welding operation we used different tools, that we can used for all resources - there is no differences.

We have about 100 products and about 50 most popular tools.

One tool can be used by 3 different products. 

in that case we may  have a problem with setting the corect capacity.

When the Tool ID is defined with Finite Capacity, its Calendar, the number of Tool Instances, and the Validity Periods of each instance should be determining the availability (capacity) of the Tool ID.

When the Tool ID is connected to a routing operation and this operation is scheduled in APB, is the availability of the Tool not restricting where operations are scheduled on each of the 4 resources?

yes You have right.

But this is in short period, when I have the Shop order created and I want to schedule production.

What is the long-term solution ? 

When the Sales Department  create the Customer order - the confirmations date - in that case the tool is not taken for calculations. System will look only on capacity on the WC/ Resource and will plan it in free spot.

If I will have 100% free capacity on my WC with 4 resources  - and I will have Customer order for  3 different products and 1 tool  to produce it.

System can plan it parrarel on 3 resorces.  BUt I will not able to do it. I will have to do it one by one so the confirmations date should be different for each of them.

Some idea how to manage it?
