About the function of IFS EE Link Handler

Forum|alt.badge.img+1

When IFS Applications 10 users use the IFS Enterprise Explorer link in Chrome,
If the extension is not available, 'ifs.Fnd.Explorer.application' is downloaded.
Is this just to bring up the IFS login screen?
Does it work for other functions as well?

I am aware of the following information from previous responses.
Please confirm that this perception is correct.

The only two cases where ifs.Fnd.Explorer.application needs to be replaced are when the encryption certificate expires and when ifs.Fnd.Explorer.application is updated.

When IFS Applications 10 users use the IFS Enterprise Explorer link in Chrome, if the extension is not available, the “ifs.Fnd.Explorer.application” will be downloaded, but there is no need to replace it. This is a specification when using chrome and does not affect other functions.

Hi,

If I’m understanding the situation correctly, an end user is attempting to launch IFS Applications on Chrome by clicking a ClickOnce web deployment link (eg. a link that ends with /Ifs.Fnd.Explorer.application). Instead of launching the application to the login screen, it downloads the deployment manifest (Ifs.Fnd.Explorer.application) as a file.

This is generally the case when you’re using Google Chrome without properly setting up the IFS Enterprise Explorer Link Handler extension.

Do note that recently Google Chrome disabled all Manifest V2 extensions. This includes our “old” extension “IFS EE Link Handler”. We recommend end users or admins to remove this extension and use our Manifest V3 complaint extension.

The process is outlined in this KB article: https://support.ifs.com/csm?id=kb_article&sys_id=9483cdaac3942ad4dfc7003599013176

In any case, this doesn’t work, let me know. You can also use Microsoft Edge as an alternative, which supports ClickOnce deployments out of the box (without any extensions).

We are having an issue with Advanced Planning Board which requires the old IFS EE Link Handler extension which is now disabled. I have tried switching to the new Manifest V3 extension, found at this address: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/ifs-enterprise-explorer-l/edjpeohhhgedlbokcaaoalmofaoanejo?authuser=2&hl=en-GB

but it doesn’t seem to be compatible with APB, after clicking on launch I simply get a page that says “Request Redirected” but APB does not open. For now we are having our users run APB from edge but it would be nice to be able to go back to Chrome.

Hi,

This could be something we have missed testing. Can you please outline a test plan so that we can try it out and see?

Here are the steps we take to replicate this issue in Chrome (it works in Edge):

  1. Open Advanced Planning Board from “Supply Chain Planning / Constraint Based Scheduling/Advanced Planning Board”.
  2. Download msi file from link provided by step 5. https://download.ifs.cloud/addon/CBSClient/ifseeextensioninstall.msi
  3. Step 5 then lists a required Chrome Extension which is to be downloaded, however that link points to the old manifest v2 link handler: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/ifs-ee-link-handler/hmnenmeloiaifbhgebbpkiapmjognkio
  1. Instead we install the manifest v3 link handler linked in my previous comment.
  2. We then select a site to run Advanced Planning Board and click “OK”
  3. Instead of opening APB, a tab is opened with the following address: chrome-extension://edjpeohhhgedlbokcaaoalmofaoanejo/link-handler.html

This page shows the MV3 link handler extension and has the words “Request Redirected You May Close This Tab” with the IFS logo, however nothing else is opened.

We are running:

Application service update: 24.1.0

Framework service update: 24.1.0

IFS Cloud Web version: 24.1.0.20240503204405.0

Your assistance is appreciated.

Hi,

I was able to successfully run the APB application with the MV3 extension.

The issue here seems to be the native host application you’re using.

https://download.ifs.cloud/addon/CBSClient/ifseeextensioninstall.msi → points to the one used by the old MV2 extension. This is no longer supported.

You can remove any previous versions of it and make sure you’ve installed the latest ones through: https://support.ifs.com/csm?id=kb_article&sys_id=9483cdaac3942ad4dfc7003599013176

If you check the Control Panel > Programs and Features

This should be the only entry.

I can see that you have the correct extension, as that redirect page is only there in the new one.

Hopefully, once you uninstall the old native host application and install the new one, your problem should be resolved.

Following your steps has fixed our issue and we are able to launch APB as expected.

Thanks for all of your help!
