Packing Instruction - how to set this one up, advise needed - 24R2

All,

 

We have a manufactured part that goes into Bag A - qty 500, Bag A has a label put on it. This is then put inside another bag A that is cable tied together. The bag is the same inventory part item. These two bags are then put inside a box that has a label put on it, 20 boxes then go onto a pallet.

 

How do you recommned setting up the packing instruction to use on the shop order?

 

We have an inventory part associated with our handling unit ID so that we can control our stocks but the only way I can see to build this packing instruction is to half the quantity in the bag on the Part Handling Unit Capacity, as this currently states 500 per bag.

 

Is there a better way of doing this in the system? I’ve looked at using accessories for the extra bag but as the inventory part is already associated with a handling unit the system does not allow it to be connected to the accessory.

    Hi ​@sholmes , regarding the packing instruction, I would look at setting it up as follows:

    Node 1 – Pallet x1

    • Part Capacity: 20,000

    Node 2 – Box x20

    • Part Capacity: 1,000

    Node 3 – Bag x1

    • Part Capacity: 500

    You could potentially look at removing the Packaging Material Part from the bag handling unit. Instead, you could create an accessory for the bag and, within the packing instruction against Node 3, add the accessory with a quantity of 2.

    You could also potentially set up accessories for the labels and cable ties if these need to be captured as part of the packing process.

    Separately from the packing instruction setup, is there any particular reason why the bags, labels and cable ties couldn't potentially be associated with the manufactured part's BOM? That may provide a simpler way of managing the consumption of these materials as part of the manufacturing process, rather than trying to manage them entirely through the packing instruction.

    Thanks for the advise, we are an enginering business that part structures are highly controlled so we try not to add packaging to the structure that can change as the process internal to change process impacts not just the structure in IFS. We have to update all our control plans, operator instructions, care points, drawings which is very ownerous. Being able to consume stock of an inventory part when the handling unit is packed and count stock regularly is preferred. I like the idea of removing the inventory part on Node 3 and associate the accessory with the inventory part, this can then be changed on the other products easily that consume the same bag.
