Hello,
We are upgrading from v8 to 24R2, indeed you will have multiple operations and it is in steps, 8->9->10->Cloud, it is a looooong process
@MCIPSTEV
Question:- how do you upgrade from 8--9 -- 10 ?
are you using same ifscloud upgrade scripts and running multiple times or some other way?
Thanks,
Hardik
This is from the IFS Cloud 24R2 Release Notes.
Direct upgrade scripts from IFS Applications 9 to IFS Cloud 25R1 (or later) replaced with a two-step approach.
The possibility to run direct upgrades from IFS Applications 9 to IFS Cloud is deprecated and planned to be removed in 25R1. Once removed IFS Cloud will not contain direct upgrade scripts from IFS Applications 9. Consequently, customers upgrading from IFS Applications 9 to IFS Cloud 25R1 (or later) need to follow a two-step process. First, upgrade from IFS Applications 9 to IFS Applications 10, and then proceed from IFS Applications 10 to IFS Cloud 25R1 (or later). This two-step approach involves consecutively running the upgrade scripts for the database itself, within a matter of hours or days.
There is no “roll out” or “go live” on IFS Applications 10.
This change only affects customers who run upgrade scripts to upgrade their existing IFS Applications 9 database. Customers performing a fresh install of IFS Cloud and then migrating some of their data remain unaffected.
Why is IFS making this change?
While many customers who transition from IFS Applications 9 to IFS Cloud take the opportunity to start fresh with a new deployment of IFS Cloud and migrate only a portion of their data, some customers wish to upgrade their entire IFS Applications 9 data estate into IFS Cloud.
However, standard support for IFS Applications 9 ended in 2020, and the number of customers still using it is rapidly decreasing. Consequently, we believe that the best approach to maintain a quality-assured upgrade process from IFS Applications 9 to IFS Cloud is to leverage a combination of the IFS Applications 9 to IFS Applications 10 upgrade scripts (which will remain supported for many years) with the IFS Applications 10 to IFS Cloud upgrade scripts.
Advice to customers running IFS Applications 9 planning to upgrade to IFS Cloud 25R1 (or later)
If you have not yet started your upgrade project or are in the earlier stages, plan for and perform the two-step upgrade to first IFS Applications 10 and then to IFS Cloud. This upgrade is typically performed in the “upgrade place” so that the database is upgraded to the correct IFS Cloud release update before it gets onboarded into the IFS Cloud Use Place.
While it will be possible to perform variation of the two-step approach by upgrading from IFS Applications 9 to 24R2 and then use the IFS Lifecycle Experience and Release Update Studio to apply the 25R1 (or later) release update, we advise to take the route via IFS Applications 10 instead.
@Bob Corrigan ,
thanks. can you suggest the process to get “upgrade place”, cause for that we should also get IFS10 build to upgrade IFS9.
Regards
Pankaj
As far as I know IFS does not have a formal “upgrade place” in the IFS Cloud Services. Customers would provide thier own “upgrade place” typically locally or on a hosting center that can support the old versions of the Operating Systems.
Once IFS Cloud is licensed an IFS Cloud Build Place is created that can be used to provide the build needed to apply to the “upgrade/use place” for the Apps 10 upgrade to IFS Cloud 25R1.
Then the IFS Cloud 25R1 Use place can used if using the IFS Cloud Services or in a Remote Deployment model.
@Bob Corrigan
thanks for your reply
my query is where will be get IFS10 build to upgrade from IFS9 to IFS10
IFS build place will be having 25R1

@Bob Corrigan ,
Can you suggest if the IFS10 build will be part of IFS Cloud Build place.
regards
Pankaj
The Build for Apps 10 would not be part of the IFS Cloud Build Place. To get the build for Apps 10 there is the possibility for a “Citrix Build Place” but I don't know anyone that has used it.
Normally customers get the Apps 10 build from the local IFS Services group and run the upgrade scripts on a local server.
