Connect Sales Quotation to a Business Opportunity

I wonder what’s the idea behind the fact that I cannot connect a Sales Quotation (SQ) to a Business Opportunity (BO)?

Sometimes we face this situation:

step 1) we create a standalone SQ for some smaller components, so not coming from a BO

step 2) customer comes back and is asking for a revision where we think a BO would have been required for our sales process

=> here it would be great if would could create the BO and then connect the revised SQ to the BO

Looking forward to your feedback!

Hello @svedle74,

As far as i know, you cannot link an existing Sales Quotation to a Business Opportunity in IFS Cloud. The idea behind the current design is that the “source object” of the sales work (BO or SQ) must be chosen at the start of the process, and the system assumes that relationships (opportunity > quotation > CO) are formed in that sequence, not retrofitted afterwards (it is just the way it has been designed).

As I can see it , the IFS CRM has been originally built as a linear flow. I know that this limitation has been raised multiple times, and I’ve seen that IFS has acknowledged it as a potential enhancement as well. .

Hence, the explained behavior is intentional due to the one to one,  CRM >  SQ > CO design. If you’d ask me the only ways to achieve your scenario today are,

Option #1 - Create a new SQ from the BO and copy data
Option #2 - Use a customization to modify the standard behavior (which will be a CRIM and cost you)

Hope this helps!
Cheers
Sachitha

Just my opinion.

I understand your business flow, but from a business object perspective, I can also understand why IFS does not support linking an existing Sales Quotation to a newly created Business Opportunity.

For me, the key part of your example is:

"the customer comes back and is asking for a revision"

At that point, I would consider creating a new Business Opportunity and then a new Sales Quotation from that opportunity. The process would then follow the standard flow:

Business Opportunity → Sales Quotation → Customer Order.

Personally, I would not expect the process to work in the opposite direction by attaching an existing quotation to a newly created opportunity.

Creating a new BO and generating a new SQ from it should not be a very time-consuming task, and it keeps the CRM process and reporting structure clean and consistent.

Let's see whether someone with deeper CRM product knowledge knows of a standard workaround or has a different view on the intended design.

Depending on your version, another potential option would be to use the CRM Business Object.  You can connect Business Opportunities, Sales Quotations, and Customer Orders regardless of what sequence they were created.

More details would need to be shared to determine if this is the best solution to fit the overall business need.
