Hello,

We are on IFS Applications 8. We need a standard way to record additional attributes/details at the lot level (i.e., information tied to a specific Lot/Batch No, not to the part master).

Questions:

  • Does Apps 8 provide any lot-level fields (standard or user-defined) to store extra information on a lot?

  • If so, which screen/table should we use (e.g., Lot/Batch Master, related info tabs, user-defined fields, notes, etc.)?

  • If not, what’s the recommended approach to maintain lot-specific metadata (e.g., configuration, enabling custom fields, using Handling Units, or another object)?

Any guidance or configuration pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi @sahango,

Have you checked the standard WDR field available in the Inventory Part In Stock screen?

WDR fields allow entry of additional information up to 15 characters, and this can be used with the Lot/Batch number field to maintain some more information.

Thank you for your reply.

Yes, I am aware of the WDR field in Inventory Part In Stock, and we are already using it. However, since there is only one WDR field available (and it is already occupied in our setup), it is unfortunately not sufficient for our needs.

What we are really looking for is a way to maintain additional attributes or information at the lot level, ideally in a structured way (more than one field, not just a short reference).

Hi @sahango,

Alternatively, you can create persistent-type Custom Fields on the Part Lot Batch screen to capture the required user input. Additionally, by creating Read-type fields for the Inventory Part In Stock screen same information can also be displayed there.

Hi Sahango,

You could also consider using a Technical Class (aka Characteristics) attached to the Lot/Batch Master record.

To do that, you’ll need to enable Technical Class attachments via the “Solution Manager > User Interface > Object Connections”. Just search for LU LotBatchMaster and edit the Service List column to include “TechnicalObjectReference^”

Then use "App Basic Data > Characteristics > Basic Data” to build a template with one or more attributes as needed.

You can then attach that template to each Lot batch Master, and populate each with unique data as required

(you can also then use “Best Fit Search” functions to search that data).

Thank you very much for your guidance 🙏

We have successfully created a Technical Class and defined Attributes (e.g., SUPPLIER_CODE). The template setup worked fine, and we can now see the attributes in the Technical Class Template.

However, we are currently unable to link this Technical Class to the Lot/Batch Master. In the Lot Batch Master window, the Characteristics tab does not appear, even though we have already added TechnicalObjectReference^ in Object Connections.

We tried checking Tab Visibility, but the tab is not listed there either. Do we need to restart the client or apply any additional configuration/permission to make the Characteristics tab visible on the Lot Batch Master screen?

Any further advice would be greatly appreciated.

Your set-up looks correct. I tried the same in my environment and it worked as expected…

After updating the above Server List, I think you need to log out of EE and then log back in before the change takes effect, but after doing so you should be able to see the Characteristics (i.e. Technical Class) section within the attachments panel as shown below...

My screenshots are from Apps 10, but I would expect it to work the same in Apps 8.

It’s good to know that our Object Connection setup was correct. We had already created the Technical Class and Attributes, but the Characteristics tab was not showing up on the Lot/Batch Master screen.

Based on your advice, we will log out of Enterprise Explorer and log back in to let the changes take effect. – thanks again for your clear explanation and screenshots!
