We are utilizing Shop Order split to create a new shop order to rework parts.  Does a prorated amount from the parent shop order move to the child shop order?  If not, does it make sense to receive the qty to be reworked from the Parent shop order and add the part to the BOM and issue the parts to the Child Shop order to bring in the cost?

Hi @Joymf ,

No, when you perform a Shop Order Split in IFS, the system does not automatically prorate or transfer the cost from the parent shop order to the child shop order. The split primarily affects quantities and routing, but cost allocation remains separate unless you take additional steps.

Recommended Approach for Rework Scenario

The documentation suggests that if you need the child shop order to reflect the correct cost for rework:

  • Receive the quantity to be reworked from the parent shop order into inventory.
  • Then, create the child shop order for rework and:
    • Add the part to the BOM (Bill of Material) of the child order.
    • Issue the parts from inventory to the child shop order.

This ensures that the cost flows correctly into the child shop order because issuing parts from inventory brings in their cost.

Hope this helpful.

@Joymf you may want to investigate using the Comprehensive Shop Order Split functionality described here - https://docs.ifs.com/ifsclouddocs/25r1/Manufacturing/ActivityComprehensiveSOsplit.htm?StandAlone=true

Hi @matt.watters

I'm trying to split a shop order after a fully received subcontracting operation.

The split itself works, but I cannot redistribute the costs of the previous operations between the original and the new shop orders (e.g. splitting 4 pieces into 2 + 2).

According to the documentation, all costs and transactions related to previous operations remain on the original shop order.

Has anyone encountered this situation? Is there any workaround or alternative solution to distribute these costs between both shop orders?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Outside operation is complete reported:

  • Comprehensive shop order split - you can only split from a later operation, all costs and transactions related to previous operations will remain on the original shop order. The split can only be performed if the Adjust on Op Qty Deviation is not selected.

@audreyS I have not worked with splitting orders with outside operations and I do not know why the system will not allow costs to be distributed to the new order.

An idea has been submitted for this.
