Question

Is there a limit on the number of values or characters in a semicolon-separated search in search fields?

Hello Community,

While testing search functionality in IFS Cloud, we are trying to determine whether any limits exist for search inputs containing a large number of values.
For example, in Order Number search field with the search input values (00001;00015;00023;...)
Could anyone clarify:
Whether there is a maximum input length for search fields
Whether there is a limit on the number of values in a semicolon-separated search
An official reference from IFS documentation or technical documentation would be especially helpful.

Thanks in advance.

Hi @soetz

I tried to brute force the system by entering an almost endless string of search tokens (separated by semicolon) and I can say that, for Background Jobs (which was the one I thought would be a good candidate to stretch the search to a limit) I was able to enter 21,272 JOB_IDs and IFS was OK to handle that.

The limitations were mostly on the Client Side (the UI refresh was sluggish as most of browser manipulation happens in memory and my system was not able to handle that) but the server seems to be able to handle very large query strings with no problem.

I also tried to look at the generated code on the Projection API’s but it seems that these searches rely on the Core layer (or I was just simply not able to find the right API call that handles this).

I thought I would not be able to go over the PL/SQL limit of 32,767 characters (if not using two bytes per char) but since each JOB ID on my search string is about 7 characters (plus the semi-colon), we are talking about 21,272 x 8 = 170,176! (something I confirmed by pasting the search string I put on IFS in Notepad)...

So, all in all, I was not able to find the limit, but it seems you have a LOT of room there!

If you find that number let me know, I’m very curious myself now! LOL
