Is it standard behavior for Handling Unit IDs to be inherited during Incoming Dispatch Advice receipt?

Hi,

We are currently testing site-to-site shipments in IFS Cloud 26R1.

We would like to confirm the standard behavior regarding Handling Units during Incoming Dispatch Advice receipt.

Current scenario:

  1. Goods are shipped from Site A with Handling Units.
  2. An Incoming Dispatch Advice is created on Site B.
  3. Receipt is performed from Incoming Dispatch Advice Lines.
  4. The inventory is received together with the original Handling Unit structure and Handling Unit IDs from Site A.

Based on our testing, the receiving site inherits the same Handling Unit IDs that were created on the shipping site.

We would like to confirm whether this behavior is standard by design.

In addition, we would like to know the following:

  1. Is inheriting the original Handling Unit IDs during Incoming Dispatch Advice receipt the standard behavior in IFS Cloud?
  2. Is there any standard functionality, parameter, receive case, or configuration that allows receipt without retaining the original Handling Unit IDs?
  3. Is there any option such as:
    • Receive without Handling Units
    • Ignore Handling Unit IDs during receipt
    • Automatically unpack Handling Units during receipt
    • Create new Handling Units at the receiving site during receipt
  4. If this is not supported during receipt, is the recommended standard approach to:
    • Receive the inventory together with the Handling Units, and then
    • Unpack the Handling Units afterward?

We reviewed the documentation related to Incoming Dispatch Advice and Handling Units, but have not found any functionality that allows us to prevent the original Handling Unit IDs from being inherited during receipt.

Any guidance or best practices would be greatly appreciated.

@suzukih I’m curious why keeping the same HU between different companies is bothering you. Normally customer like the fact that they don’t have to reprint labels because the HU is preserved throughout the whole supply-chain.

1. Is inheriting the original Handling Unit IDs standard?

Yes, for internal senders. When an Incoming Dispatch Advice HU line is inserted, IFS copies the sender's IDs onto the local record:

IF (Ext_Dispatch_Adv_Manager_API.Is_Internal_Sender(...) = Fnd_Boolean_API.DB_TRUE) THEN   newrec_.handling_unit_id        := TO_NUMBER(newrec_.sender_handling_unit_id);   newrec_.parent_handling_unit_id := TO_NUMBER(newrec_.sender_parent_handling_unit_id);END IF;

"Internal sender" means sender type Site or Remote Warehouse, or a supplier whose category is Internal. Your site-to-site case is exactly that.

2 and 3. Is there a way to receive without retaining them?

Yes, receive with the Default Locations option on the Receive Dispatch Advice dialog. That path sets an internal flag which suppresses handling units entirely.

One important trade-off: Default Locations is not purely a "handling units off" switch. It also changes location determination, lines go to their default locations rather than to the single location you specify. If your receiving process depends on directing goods to one location, that's a real constraint

IF (receive_to_def_locations_ = Fnd_Boolean_API.DB_TRUE) THEN

IF (Is_Attached_To_Handling_Unit(...) = Fnd_Boolean_API.DB_TRUE) THEN

ignore_handling_units_ := TRUE;

END IF;
