We have some items that have expiration date:

  1. Is there a setting where we can put expiration date of item?  (ie Paint / Mask /Liquid etc.)
  2. Is there a feature in IFS that will block the expired items and users will not be able to release it, unless, unblock them (similar to SAP)?
  3. Any additional reading articles or guide on how to do the setting?

Hi,

You can define expiry details in inventory part window / acquisition tab (shelf life). Please refer below screen preview obtained from IFSApps 10 environment.

Also, found below explanation in IFSCloud documentation.

Hi Samila,

Good morning and thank you for sharing this information.

I went to the link, but it did not specify on what IFS does on the expired items, like does it block the item so it won’t be issued out?  Do you happen to have additional information or advice, would be keen to hear from your expertise :)

Also does this mean this tick box for Mandatory Expiration Date is only available from IFS V10 onwards and not available in V9? Below is the screenshot from our V9, which is not available:

Hi @Samila You can still manually issue expired stock, however the system wont take it into account when automatically reserving, backflushing etc.

Also, yes the Expiry mandatory was added to Apps 10.

The only way to stop issue etc is to look at Part Availability Controls.

Hi COV JAMIEB,

Thanks for providing additional inputs!  Seems like in IFS, it will not auto block as you mentioned it can still be manually issuing expired stocks.  Does it mean also same for Material Requisition screen, meaning even though it is marked as expired, it can still be issued out in IFS V10?

Additionally, are you able to provide more details when you mentioned  “The only way to stop issue etc is to look at Part Availability Controls.”  Which screen are you referring to ( Inventory Part in Stock, Inventory Part or Part Screen?)

Same logic for Material Reqs. If the stock is expired the reserve option wont factor this in, however you can still manually reserve expired stock.

Part Availability Controls - These exist in the Inventory Basic Data. You can use these to decide if a part can be auto/manual reserved, auto/manual issued, scrapped, counted, moved or if its nettable by the planning calculations.

You can apply these to stock records or set as default options against warehouses, locations etc.

I have attached the IFS Documentation relating to this (Apps 9), they haven't really changed in newer versions.

Just another note. Part Availability Controls against stock records can be changed via the Inventory Part in Stock screen.
