How to remove special characters when using INET_TRANS for XML

How to remove special characters when using INET_TRANS for XML. What is the best way to remove special like ‘& < >’ and others. These might appear in a description or an address field and they create errors in the output xml file. This is from Send_Purchase_Order xml. Is there a systematic process to keep these characters from going to xml?

We created a Transformer file and added it to the routing address. This removed the special characters from the export file.
