Hello,

are there some “rule of thumb” recommendations about document repository storage with IFS Apps?

Qualitatively, it’s sure that if there is a “big” total volume of documents and/or large individual documents, it might be safe to store on file server rather than as BLOBs in Oracle DB.

But the question is how big is “big”? Are there some metrics, returns of experience about this?

Hi,

There are few good points discussed covering the document management storage topic in a different thread:

https://community.ifs.com/technology-all-about-the-nuts-and-bolts-that-make-it-work-50/document-management-moving-file-repository-1630

Please have a look.

Thank you Srikanth, I had indeed identified through the search very interesting comments in this thread (impact on document search, on backup/restore...) even if indicative metrics are not discussed.

Big is when you notice that your backups are taking too long or there are other performance issues related to the size of the database.  We ran with documents stored against the database until the application had more than doubled in size and the backups were become problematic due to length, then we transitioned to an ftp repository for the documents.  We’ve noticed no significant disadvantages with this move.
