When it comes to self billing PO lines, the receipt reference is a mandatory because the invoice is automatically created and matched in connection with the receipt. This is the standard behavior in Apps10 latest version.

The receipt reference should have some relevance to the goods received to help identify the receipt itself. Generating a sequential number doesn’t help with matching.
