 Hi All,

  • When a Type Designation is connected via the General Tab of the functional object, and a Technical Class Template is also connected, the information of the technical class and attributes details are not visible on the Type Designation Tab. Instead, it only appears on the Requirements Tab.
  • The same information appears to be duplicated across three locations:
    • Type Designation Tab
    • Requirements Tab
    • Attachment Panel (as characteristics)

I’m trying to understand the functional purpose of the Type Designation Tab. Is there a specific use case or workflow where this tab is essential, or is it redundant due to the availability of the same information on the other tabs and attachment panel?

Please let me know your thoughts!

Thanks & Best Regards,

Nipun

Hello,

I believe the following post would help you to understand functional purpose of the Type Designation better.

Difference Object Type - Type Designations | IFS Community

--- --- --- --

To understand the behavior better, it would be good to understand the possible distinction between ‘Object Type’ and ‘Type Designation’ terms.

Object Type refers to a broader category of equipment based on its primary functionality and technical requirements whereas Type Designation refers to a individual/specific group of items within an Object Type.

For example, with in the Object Type “PUMP” there can be many Type Designations such as PUMP CENTRIFUGAL | PUMP RESIPROCATORY | PUMP VACUUM etc. etc.

Given the above definition, it is clear that Object Type & Type Designation can hold different technical classes. Technical Class for Object Type holding more generic technical requirements whilst Technical Class for Type Designation holding the detail/specific technical requirements. ----- ---------

Hope this would help.

Hi @Mayura Wasantha

Thank you very much for the explanation, it helped to understand the functionality.

On functional or Serial Object screen under Type Designation tab, the data(Technical Class and attribute details) are visible only when the Technical class template is connected to Type Designation in basic data level. When we connect a Technical class template through functional or Serial object screen attachment panel, it’s shown on Requirement Tab. Is that correct?

Thanks & Best Regards,

Nipun

Yes, it is. This behavior is in line with the underline type designation concept.
