Hi,

Regarding the use and management of QR Codes in Alliance a customer asks us about what is your feedback and recommendations with the 3 applications mentioned applications (employees, mobility and Client Web portal) ?
Is there a setting provided in Astea to indicate the fields to be retrieved in a QR Code?
we have a use case with a QR code that will contain the following 3 data :
-Product Number
-Designation
-Serial Number
The objective is for the applications to process these 3 Data  in one Scan.
What is your opinion on the possibility of processing this data ?

Thank you in advance for your feedback.

Regards

anthony

Hi Anthony,
I would suggest reaching out to the Services team, they’ll be able to assist you with the request (and can provide estimates for each approach), I’m not sure if the QR vs NFC would have a large impact on the development time or not, I suspect that will depend more on how much automation you want to happen on the mobile device side after the scan has been performed.
Thanks,
Reid

Hi Anthony,
There is a Barcode Parsing module in the Alliance application where you can specify the formats of barcodes and the delimiters used.  As far as mobile is concerned this functionality ONLY exists in the Mobile Universal application (it was never implemented in Mobile Edge) so if you wanted it on the that mobile application that would require some customization work to be done.
Thanks,
Reid

Hi Anthony,

In addition to this, you would still probably have to customize in the Alliance application since your intent is to return three pieces of information from the QR code.  Alliance would have to know what to do with the returned values as primarily it was my understanding the current bar code reading was for singular information placement into the current field, not multiple data into multiple fields.

You can embed multiple pieces of data in the same barcode if you use Masks (including variable length fields with the use of delimiters):

Thanks,

Thank you for the correction Reid… I still feel a customization is needed to process the returned parsed data to where they want and this is via the Barcode Rules which are defined already in Alliance and not modifiable.

In any case, I think the issue is moot at this point for Standard Alliance as barcode parsing was only supported in Mobile Universal (deprecated) and not the current Mobile Edge 15.4.x lineup.

Hi  @Reid Gilbert @Phil Seifert

Thanks for your insights
I wonder if the NFC could be another way to answer the need. It’s quite often that we have some questions about that. (QR code could be copied)

Regarding the implementation in Alliance (Back end and Mobile edge) : one of them (QR code vs NFC) should be less complex  ?

Thanks and Regards

anthony
