HI Christophe,

Please keep in mind the Alliance product lifecycle is reaching its final phases with standard support ending end of 2026 and extended support in 2029.  No RFE’s or new standard functionalities are planned or accepted for the standard product any longer.

I have not heard plans to upgrade .NET on the products myself.  That is not to rule it out completely as perhaps something happens where the OS clients must use later versions, etc.  Normally however, later versions are usually backward compatible to the code written against older versions.

The points usually brought up for upgrading to these versions .NET are:

  • Performance enhancements
  • Cloud-Native deployment (note Alliance is not specifically a native cloud app so not applicable for the most part)
  • Security and Compliance perhaps with later encryption standards
  • AI and Machine Learning (Note no plans to add AI functionality to Alliance as it approaches the end of its lifecycle)

Hi Phil , i understand your point but customer send me this : “.NET 6 will reach end of support on Nov 12, 2024. After that, Microsoft will no longer provide updates for .NET 6. Security fixes and technical support will no longer be available for .NET 6. You’ll need to update to .NET 8 before this date to stay supported.”  so this should enter into the security and compliance topic no?

HI Christophe,

Understood.  I will inquire with development if they have any plans in this area.  But again, usually the higher .NET versions will still be compatible with the older code.

I would imagine the .NET security enhancements are not related to the application code running on top of the .NET framework itself but let me see what I can find out.

Hi Christophe,

Checking with development:

There are no plans that I'm aware of for upgrading the .NET version (at least on the mobile side), that would require modifying the installers and doing full regression testing (and the product is basically in maintenance mode at this point).
