Hi Bjørn,
What you are observing is working as designed.
In a service order, if there is a warehouse defined in the from warehouse of the material demand or if there is a warehouse defined in the Service Info. page, this is where the auto-allocation comes into play.
The screen you show is setting the default warehouse to populate on the service order for this customer when first creating a new service order. Of course, if this is blank, there will not be a warehouse defined initially thus you cannot allocate from a warehouse until you define a warehouse. Most times, this is done after assigning an agent who has his own warehouse.
If your goal is to have the allocation from the MAIN warehouse when inserting a new material demand immediately prior to assigning an agent, then you will need to do one of the following:
- Define a default warehouse to the customer (your screen and observation noted above is correct).
- If the warehouse is not defined on the service order or the material demand, define it manually in the order before creating the material demand.
Note, if you are auto-allocating prior to assigning an agent, this means when you do assign an agent and IMO will be needed to bring the material from the original warehouse as it is already allocated to the agent’s warehouse.
I hope this answers your question. Auto-Allocation only works if there is a warehouse in the material demand definition.
+15Check the setting on this toggle in the Logistics Settings module in Alliance...see if this is disabled (and if so, try enabling it and then close/reopen the Service Order module and try it again to see if it resolves the issue):

Automatic Parts Allocation is active, but we find that warehouse needs to be defined on the customer/site for this to work (even if we have a Primary Warehouse defined on the Node). Is this by design?

+23You can also consider using the Allocation Batch module to create scheduled jobs to perform allocations after the fact as well.
Based on the criteria, it will also allocate NEEDED parts if the warehouse is defined that were not initially allocated by the automatic parts allocation flag in Logistics Settings which only work when you first define the material demand.
