we plan to upgrade from IFS application v9.5 to IFS v2020, is it possible? or need from v9 to v10 then v2020? is there any detail steps?
Hi,
I don’t think V2020 has been rolled out yet and you need to contact your local IFS for more details.
I have been told by IFS that it will be possible to go from V9 to IFS 2020 or from V10. The quoted upgrade price is different depending on whether we go to V10 or IFS 2020 (we are on V9 as well and are planning to go direct to IFS 2020 and skip V10). There is however no further detail on this until December when IFS 2020 is introduced.
Hi
We discussed with IFS in February upgrading from IFS Application 8 SP1+ to v2020 R1 but we decided to instead upgrade to IFS Application 10 Update 8 which we are now live. Two of the main reasons we decided to move to IFS Application 10 were the following.
- v2020 wouldn’t be available until the end of the year and we desired to upgrade in July 2020.
- v2020 does not include IFS Enterprise Explorer it only has the IFS Aurena web interface. We would have had trouble transitioning our users from IFS Enterprise Explorer to IFS Aurena that quickly. The decision was made to upgrade to IFS Application 10 Update 8 so we could use IFS Enterprise Explorer to go live and slowly transition our users to IFS Aurena a department at a time. Now when we decide to upgrade to the next release of IFS the users will already be utilizing Aurena.

thanks all for the input, if upgrade to v10 and v10 will fall in extended support from Q1 2023, means we need upgrade again after 2+ year, please help input your thoughts, thanks!

That is exactly the problem we have with going to V10 as well. We do not want to go through two upgrades in less than 3 years time to stay in front of the extended maintenance surcharge. So for us, we are looking hard at skipping V10 so we can get at the front of the upgrade/update cycle, rather than being at the end as we’ve been thus far. It is true the upgrade will be much harder as IEE will not be available to ease the transition for the users, but we believe we will be able to recreate the functionality in Aurena (once we learn it) that will hopefully improve the user experience - even if it is a radically different UI. Our current plan is to choose either the second update of IFS 2020 or the first of IFS 2021, (depending on how and when the numbering switches) and commence an upgrade in the latter part of next year.
