Hi,
I’m seeking some guidance on Report Studio. This looks like a good tool for working with report layouts within IFS Cloud. I have picked up that there might be some limitations when working with custom fields and possibly with printing of these .rep reports. Can anyone share their experience on these limitations?
Also, I checked the 24R2 and 25R1 Roadmap and do not see Report Studio mentioned.  Should we expect updates to the Report Studio functionality in upcoming Releases and/or Service Updates?
Thanks

I was just investigating the same thing. I have not found any way to convert existing reports from report designer (RDL/XML format) to Report Studio (JSON). which makes us stuck with report designer for the time being.
It would be great to get some insights regarding the roadmap of these tools as I would assume that report designer eventually will be removed.

Ouch, yeah, it’s probably the same story as with the change from Report Builder to Report Designer many moons ago: redo from scratch.

I’m curious about those “limitations when working with custom fields”. Are they documented anywhere? I couldn’t find anything in the tech docs: https://docs.ifs.com/techdocs/24r1/060_development/025_operational_reporting/060_report_studio/

I was curious as to whether Report Studio can generated QR code, which would help my customer (since Report Designer can only do 2D barcodes), but that’s probably way too much to ask.

I’m honestly scratching my head a little. At least the current Report Designer layouts are based on a proposed standard from Microsoft (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Report_Definition_Language), so the technical platform in itself is okay. It’s just the Java based Report Designer UI that’s [redacted]. But Report Studio seems based on something propriety from https://www.devexpress.com/.

And I was wrong about IFS Report Designer not supporting QR Codes. It does:

D-oh!

Hi

With the IFS REport Studio Migration Toll, you can convert *.rdl files to *.rep files and import them into the report studio.

Is there a migration/conversion path from Crystal layouts to report studio layouts?

I don't know about the crystal report conversion, but let me tell you I'm happy IFS chose to implement a third party actual report designing tool. I've worked with DevExpress in the past and it's so much easier and stable than the report designer. We're currently implementing 25R1, and although we won't be changing the layouts before the update, I can see us gradually changing the layouts to DevExpress afterwards.

I am also interessed in this topic.

I don’t believe IFS have provided a solution to convert Crystal Layouts to Report Studio layouts, but one of the IFS Partner Companies (E-Analytics) has developed their own tool for this, called CrystalClear.

EA has their tool which does help. But it does not address the fundamental issue in the 25R1 version, which is that tables cannot be linked. The RPI tables have to be updated with a custom field of one sort of another if they are not currently available for operational reports. We have some invoice formats, using Crystal, that hit multiple tables. Adding all of those fields to the RPI report is far from ideal and may not be possible in some cases.

I just recently tried the Report Studio Migration tool, which converts report designer reports. I am totally underwhelmed. It does an okay job of converting the header on those reports. After that, even trying standard out of the box IFS report designer formats, the tool is subpar at best. I am not sure it would not be quicker to recreate the report as opposed to trying to fix all of the issues the conversion creates.
