We have issues where data on mobile gets stale (out of synch with system data) - in particular affecting logistics and van warehouse inventory. Getting the user to change user when logging on solves this - but is there a way to force full mobile update at specific intervals without the SA having to change user?

Hi Bjørn,

I think you may have to describe a little more what types of transactions are not actually modifying the database stores on the mobile client that you are having to reinitialize.

However, I do know that in general, there is an MOE setting which restricts how much inventory data is downloaded to the device.

I am not aware of a way to force a refresh of the inventory data on the client from the Alliance backend application itself though I thought there was a refresh button in the modules on the mobile client themselves which the user can pull updated information but this will also be subject to the above MOE option from my understanding:

I realize you may not want the field engineer to take action and just force an update to their clients without any intervention on their side to make sure they have the latest data but again I am not aware of one, especially one that can be scheduled.

Hi Bjørn,
Is the issue only happening in PROD or can you recreate it in your UAT environment?
Can you run a quick test where you log into the mobile application (wait for all the data to download), and then put the Astea Mobile app in the background on the mobile device (i.e. switch to any other application to bring a different app to the foreground).  Now create a new Miscellaneous Receive document in the Alliance application and set the To Warehouse field to be your mobile technician’s default warehouse...add a qty of 1 of any product ID and then hit the Save button.  Wait a couple of seconds for that transaction to process…

Do you get a Push Notification on the mobile device (about the inventory update)?  Now click on Astea Mobile to bring the application to the foreground and then go to the Messenger module...do you see an entry in there that you have received an Inventory update at that time?

If you see that message, click on the Inventory module and see if you see the product you added on the Miscellaneous Receive displayed in there at this time (and remove any filters that are enabled so you see all of the inventory records).
Thanks,
Reid

HI Bjørn,

As a side note, Reid and I both believe pushing the data down at regularly scheduled intervals is not a good idea as then it also sounds like you may want to do this for a set of agents, not just one.  This would result in a significant increase in data through the mobile data network not needed especially for the other agents who do not need an update.

In short, we do not have a method to FORCE an complete update from the backend and perhaps the refresh option with changing -10125 server MOE may help (though don’t make this too large either as mobile devices have more limited resources than backend systems).  If they can do it with a refresh, this avoids reinitializing.
