Hi some customers are asking me why in V15.4 web employee, when you open an active report and click on print it doesn’t show you your local printers but open an other tab on which the report seems to be exported as pdf and then you can print it? in the Astea Browser you can directly print from the active report which is displayed

Is it due to security issue ?

Thanks for your feedback

Hi Christophe,

I don’t think this is due to security as much as the shift to using MS technology to render the active report on a web page.  In the Astea Browser, the client actually used the web framework to download the PDF to your client before displaying it in a new tab in the UI.

However, in v15 Web Employee Portal per a discussion I had with R&D regarding the sending of the active report via email:

The Active reports web report viewer, which is implemented with Microsoft asp.net MVC technology, doesn’t provide email functionality. The web report viewer is a separate web site without Astea’s web framework.

I read this as the Web Employee portal is rendering the document on the server itself to display in the tab as a different web site.  Since the Astea web framework is not used, there is nothing downloading the document to the Web Employee Portal client until you take the action to do a print.

What you are viewing on the screen is a representation of what the active report would look like but is not the actual file so printing would really be trying to print the website rendering instead of the PDF itself.
