Question

Unattach HU from Transport Task

When receiving material from transit, from a transport task, is there a way to unattach the Handling Unit during the receipt process?

When we perform this process, we are transferring material from one warehouse to another, and one of the warehouses does not use Handling Units. Our requirement is to receive the material and automatically remove the Handling Unit association during the receipt process. Is this possible?

Hi Marina,

There isn't a switch on the transport task itself to automatically unattach the Handling Unit during a Receive from Transit, because in IFS the HU is a tracked container that is designed to keep its identity end-to-end from the supply site through to the demand site. That said, there are a few standard ways to achieve what you're describing when the destination warehouse doesn't use HUs:

1. Drive the receipt at part level — use Receive Inventory Part from Transit instead of Receive Handling Unit from Transit, so the material is booked into the destination site without carrying the HU.
2. Unattach in receipt — right after the receive step, run Unattach Receipt from Handling Unit (available as a Warehouse Data Collection activity) while the parts are still in the Arrival / QA location, before the transport task moves them into stock.
3. Unattach once in stock — alternatively, run Unattach Part from Handling Unit after putaway to drop the HU association at the inventory-location level.
4. Site setting — on the destination Site > Sales and Procurement tab, review the Unattach Handling Unit at Delivery toggle; it changes whether the HU ID is preserved through delivery / undo-delivery / return transactions on that site. Worth validating against your specific transit flow, as its scope is delivery-side rather than transport-task receipt.
5. For dispatch-advice–driven transit flows — if you're using Incoming Dispatch Advice, you'll always receive the HUs; a known alternative is to do the receipt via Register Arrivals without a packing instruction so the parts land in stock without an HU. Validate lot/serial traceability and PO closure for your process before adopting this.

One important note for project-connected inter-site (CO IPT) flows: earlier 25R2 service updates had a known behavior where the HU structure could change once parts were moved into inventory at the demand site. This has been corrected in a later 25R2 service update, so if you are seeing HU structure shifts after receipt (not just the HU association itself), please confirm which SU level you're on — updating to the latest available SU may resolve part of what you're seeing before you apply any of the workarounds above. If you'd like, raise a support case with your current SU version and the exact steps and we can route it through the appropriate channel.

Hope this helps,
Gleb
