How can IFS process a DESADV message in Incoming Dispatch Advice that contains a full packing structure of handling units from a 3rd party external supplier? How do we create these handling units in the system and process them with the supplier's labels?

We are implementing IFS Cloud 26R1 and have suppliers that send an Advance Ship Notice (ASN / DESADV) via EDI before the physical delivery. The DESADV includes a full packing hierarchy: individual parts are packed into boxes, boxes are stacked on pallets, and each level carries a barcode. We want IFS to:

1. Read the packing hierarchy from the DESADV and create the corresponding handling units automatically (no manual HU creation at the dock).
2. Retain the supplier's handling unit numbers on the handling units encoded in the barcode so we can scan them at the dock without any relabeling
3. Process the receipt using those handling units.

Is this supported natively in IFS Cloud 26R1, and what does the configuration and process look like?

Hi Johannes,

On the handling unit there is a field called Alternative Handling Unit Label ID, the idea is that this field should be used for this purpose. This field can be used all through the application wherever the handling unit is used. It is included in all clients, reports etc.

The Handling Unit ID is the technical key and is generated in the application according to a sequence and can not be altered with an external ID. If you have a lot of mix of internal and external handling units, then perhaps it is better to always set alternative HU label ID equal to the Handling Unit ID and consistently use the Alternative HU Label ID throughout the application?

Best Regards
