Dependent Demand in IFS S&OP

Hi all,

I'm trying to better understand how IFS expects dependent demand to be handled in S&OP.

We have Planned Dependent Demand calculating correctly at MS Level 1, and MS Supply reflects the resulting production requirements. However, S&OP appears to aggregate the MS Level 1 Forecast separately and does not appear to add Planned Dependent Demand to that forecast.

This becomes confusing when MS Supply is copied into the New Operations Plan. The Operations Plan includes production requirements driven by dependent demand, but New Forecast doesn't include that same demand. The Inventory Plan then shows inventory building because Operations Plan is greater than Forecast.

A few questions:

  • Is Planned Dependent Demand intentionally excluded from the S&OP forecast?
  • Is MS Supply intended to be copied into New Operations Plan when MS Supply includes dependent demand?
  • If so, how is Inventory Plan expected to remain meaningful when Operations Plan contains dependent requirements that New Forecast does not?
  • Is there another way dependent demand should be represented in S&OP for this type of scenario?
  • Where, if anywhere, should Planning Structure quantities/conversion factors affect this process?

Master Scheduling appears to be working correctly. I'm mainly trying to understand the intended S&OP process once dependent demand becomes a significant part of the production requirement.

Thanks.

Hello,

I am trying to understand the picture here. Are you doing forecasting in Distribution site(s). And do you use Master Scheduling at these sites as well? And then in the Manufacturing site you have Distribution Orders as dependent demand that comes from the distribution sites.  You don’t really have a forecast here in the manufacturing site? And then you try S&OP in the Manufacturing Site? Ooops lot of questions, I think I stop here and wait for the answers.

Just trying to help….

Cheers

-Mats

So in simple terms we are trying to make it work for a single site that doesn’t have distribution orders to the other sites. Next step would be sites that do have distribution orders to other sites. But below I’ll try to explain the setup.

For Simplicity here is the setup.

Site Makes Part A on one work center. Part A is sold direct but is also component to Part B that is made on different work center at the same Site. Say relationship of part a to part b is .75 meaning for each 1 product of Part B I need consumption of .75 units of part A.

All this flows great in Master Schedule but when we try to use the S&OP Module for planning we can only bring in both parts and 100% or just Part A. I want to be able to bring this dependent internal demand to S&OP at .75 % so that my production plan and actual total demand balances and inventory is not growing.

Forecast exists for both parts. Say its 100 units for Part A and 1000 Units for Part B. My production of Part A should be 175 Units but when bringing to S&OP I can only bring in as 200 units or 100 units. I have tried all toggles and quantities per assembly

Seems like these controls aren’t really driving how dependent demand pulls in
