Dependent Demand in IFS S&OP

Hi all,

I'm trying to better understand how IFS expects dependent demand to be handled in S&OP.

We have Planned Dependent Demand calculating correctly at MS Level 1, and MS Supply reflects the resulting production requirements. However, S&OP appears to aggregate the MS Level 1 Forecast separately and does not appear to add Planned Dependent Demand to that forecast.

This becomes confusing when MS Supply is copied into the New Operations Plan. The Operations Plan includes production requirements driven by dependent demand, but New Forecast doesn't include that same demand. The Inventory Plan then shows inventory building because Operations Plan is greater than Forecast.

A few questions:

  • Is Planned Dependent Demand intentionally excluded from the S&OP forecast?
  • Is MS Supply intended to be copied into New Operations Plan when MS Supply includes dependent demand?
  • If so, how is Inventory Plan expected to remain meaningful when Operations Plan contains dependent requirements that New Forecast does not?
  • Is there another way dependent demand should be represented in S&OP for this type of scenario?
  • Where, if anywhere, should Planning Structure quantities/conversion factors affect this process?

Master Scheduling appears to be working correctly. I'm mainly trying to understand the intended S&OP process once dependent demand becomes a significant part of the production requirement.

Thanks.
