Hi All,

I am using customer consignment stock functionality.

As part of the solution I am trying to capture the consumption stock value to the project. I understand that when the customer consignment stock is in use, IFS does not allow to connect to a Project activity.

But in the customer consingment stock consumption page shows an activity ID. But I cannot identify the purpose and how to connect an activity to this.

Ideally I want to capture the consignment stock consumption to the project and capture the actual consumption based on the usage.

Any plans or work arounds for this please?

Highly appreciate any support on this requirement.

Thanks,

Chamath

Hi @Chamath Kuruppuarachchi ,

What’s actually happening

Customer Consignment Stock in IFS is designed as:

  • Customer-owned stock
  • Used for logistics / availability
  • Not tightly integrated with Project Costing

 That’s why:

  • You can’t connect it directly to a Project Activity
  • Even though you see an Activity ID field, it’s not functionally used for project posting

 About the “Activity Sequence” field

From experience:

  • The Activity Sequence in this screen is not the same as Project Activity
  • It’s more of a technical/reference field
  • It does not drive cost collection to projects

 In most implementations, it’s:

  • unused
  • or system-controlled (not something you link manually to projects)

Why your requirement doesn’t work standard

IFS limitation (standard behavior):

  • Consignment consumption:
    • Does not create project cost postings
    • Because ownership is still customer-side until consumption/invoicing

So there is no native bridge to Project Activity

 What people usually do (workarounds)

✔ Option 1 (most common)

  • Handle project costing via:
    • Normal inventory issue to project
    • Not via consignment flow

 i.e.:

  • Move/convert stock → then issue to project

✔ Option 2

  • Use:
    • Manual cost posting to project
    • Or project miscellaneous cost

Then:

  • Keep consignment purely for stock tracking

✔ Option 3 (custom/advanced)

  • Custom event or posting:
    • Trigger on consignment consumption
    • Push value to project activity

 Requires:

  • customization
  • careful finance validation
