Cannot create Inventory Part without entering cost

Hi all,

When trying to create an inventory part for a certain site, it is displaying an error asking for input in a mandatory field related to cost which cannot be seen in the Inventory Part page. Usually, the cost is entered for the Purchase Part and is not maintained for the Inventory Part. A screenshot of the error is posted below.

 

I tried using the New Part wizard and entering the cost there as well, but still, it raises the same error:

 

Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated.

@randevperera, Usually, this error appears when transactions are being created for the part. So the creation of the part seems to be doing something else it seems at the part creation. 

To confirm, can you check below,
for once allow zero cost for the inventory part and see if any transactions are created in the inventory transactions history window?

I cannot think of any setting which could do this somehow for now.

Hi @Vimukthi Mahakumbura ,

After some investigations, this error seems to be relating to a data migration issue as some inventory transactions have been migrated to a fresh environment without records of the parts. There seems to also be a server error when trying to create a part with Zero Cost Allowed:

 

Will confirm if the migration seems to be the issue.

Hi @randevperera ,

So far, I couldn’t find any basic data setting that would restrict the creation of an inventory part with the given conditions.

But looking at your second screenshot, I can see that a master part has already been created earlier. (master part step has not appeared in the wizard).

Are there any other inventory parts created for that master part (MS004429)? If not, please try creating the same inventory part to another site and see whether the error occurs. If the error didn’t appear, then we can at least assume that the problem is site specific and continue investigations.

A purge of the data in the Inventory Parts in Stock window seemed to have fixed the cost error. However, I followed the steps as mentioned by @KethakaG  and the server error is persistent. The full error is mentioned below:

A certain table, QMAN_MANDATORY_PART seems to be the issue here as it has a validation rule. This error is not present in other environments.

Hi @randevperera ,

Can you please check if the site, “R-SWR”, is available under ‘Quality Options for Sites’ screen?

If not, please add the site to that basic data screen, and then run the flow again.

I believe with the suggested change, the server error would disappear.

It is a long shot, but worth giving a try :)

Hi ​@randevperera ,

 

You are getting that error because on the Inventory Part you have the Zero Cost field set to Zero Cost Forbidden.

 

 

Please change it to Zero Cost Allowed option and you will have no issue saving the part with zero cost.
