Reporting on-behalf of my customer .Kindly provide an answers .

Currently our IFS Application is deployed in our Azure cloud which is located in the US.

We are testing handheld in Europe and latency is high, resulting in poor scanning experience.

We would like to test scanning with TAS server built in Europe to see if this improves the response times

Could you give me a little more information around the Handhelds scanning so that I can try to help troubleshooting from an Infrastructure perspective? (just to cover off another potential angle)

Latency Requirement

What is the latency requirement for optimal performance of the handhelds?

Is it the same measurement as required for the IFS Client (Enterprise Explorer)?

Handheld Application

The handhelds connect through Wifi/Network to the TouchApps server, could you tell me how? Is there a handheld App that is loaded onto them?

If so is there much processing that is done on the handheld and would a more powerful handheld potentially help?

Offline App Usage

Which Apps are designed to function with poor/no connectivity (Offline usage)? (Ie do certain Handhelds support it or only iPad/Android)

If you had any additional documentation/information on the scanning it would be great if you could send it on?

Which Touch App are you using here?

MWO is 100% offline whereas Scan It is 100% online

If you are using ScanIt then each process done on the app requires the devices to make a call all the way to the Oracle database and back again to move to the next step.

You can read about the TAS here: IFS Touch Apps Server and details of the Touch Apps are listed here: Touch Apps Business Components (ifs.com)

Cheers

Hi

Please see below answers. Hope they will help.

Latency Requirement

IFS ScanIt app is special which is designed to run in online mode. Which means not background sync compare to other Touch Apps. So need to take same measurement as required for the IFS Client (Enterprise Explorer).

IFS TAS documentation has most of the details about install and configure and

https://wit.ifsworld.com/f1docs/apps10/Foundation1/020_installation/400_installation_options/030_touch_apps/010_touch_apps_server/default.htm

Scan it app documentation are defined here:

https://wit.ifsworld.com/f1docs/apps10/Foundation1/040_administration/415_touch_apps/090_touch_apps/70_scan_it_native/default.htm

https://wit.ifsworld.com/f1docs/apps10/Foundation1/040_administration/415_touch_apps/090_touch_apps/60_scan_it/default.htm

Handheld Application

Apps are downloaded via the app store.

Page to the documentation for all the Touch Apps available: https://wit.ifsworld.com/f1docs/apps10/Foundation1/040_administration/415_touch_apps/090_touch_apps/default.htm

Offline App Usage

Apps like mWorkOrder, ServiceEngApp, Maint Eng Apps are designed to work with offline data and data synchronization happens in the background.

Offline Data Synchronization is described here:

 https://wit.ifsworld.com/f1docs/apps10/Foundation1/040_administration/415_touch_apps/010_administration/065_mobile_fw_synch_guide/default.htm
