A. What is your idea?

1) Classification

  • Opportunity for improvement

2) Brief description

Currently, support teams assign task cards to crews one shift before work execution, and line supervisors must manually assign those task cards to individual technicians at the beginning of each shift.

Due to the high volume of technicians and task cards processed each day, this manual process is time-consuming, resource-intensive, and susceptible to human error. The current process also requires significant administrative effort to ensure that task cards are assigned to the correct technicians before work begins.

B. Context and scope

1) Who is affected?

  • Internal users

2) Frequency

  • Daily

C. Value and impact

1) What is the business outcome?

  • Improves productivity or efficiency
  • Reduces cost or manual effort
  • Enhances user experience
  • Enables new capability
  • Supports compliance or reduces risk

2) Impact scale
Choose ONE: keep the applicable option and delete the rest.

  • 3 — Cross-functional

3) Workaround

The current workaround is to manually assign each task card to the appropriate technician at the beginning of each shift. Supervisors must process a high volume of assignments individually, which increases administrative workload and creates the possibility of incorrect or missed assignments.

D. Evidence and examples

A typical daily process is:

  1. Support teams assign task cards to crews one shift before work execution.
  2. At the beginning of the shift, line supervisors review the assigned task cards.
  3. Supervisors manually assign each task card to the appropriate technician.
  4. The process must be repeated for the volume of technicians and task cards scheduled for the shift.

This manual process can delay shift-start readiness and may result in assignment errors or missed assignments.

The proposed improvement would allow task card assignments to be processed from a predefined template containing the technician, task card information and BOW. The system would validate the information, process the assignments, and provide a confirmation and error report for records that cannot be processed.
