A typical assistant guides you through the most commonly used fields for new data. Each page of an assistant holds one or more fields. If there are no mandatory fields on a specific page, you can skip the page directly by selecting the dot in the top of the assistant denoting the steps.

So if step one contains one mandatory field, you're not able to skip the step and steps 2, 3 and 4 are not open. You enter the field on step 1 and there is no mandatory field on step 2, dot 2 and 3 turn from grey to blue (could be that color theming has different colors). This means you can go directly from step 1 to step 3 by clicking dot 3. If dot 4 is still grey, it means that step 3 contains mandatory field(s).
