Responsible Person Change in Microsoft Projects

Working with a customer who is using MSP to replace the gantt chart in IFS. They are currently happy with what it provides for them, but would like to be able to update the Responsible Person per activity directly from MSP itself.

When you change the responsible person in IFS it is replicated in the import to MSP but uncertain if we can do the reverse. Has anyone encountered this?

Hi @JOSMAR,

Based off of what i know on the IFS-MSP integration, although IFS > MSP is supported, MSP >  IFS (updating Responsible Person or any activity attribute from MSP end) is not supported out of the box, and as i see it there’s a technical reason for it.

I believe this is how it was designed, since IFS treats MSP only as a planning tool but not as a master data source. So when your customer updates the Responsible Person in MSP, IFS has no listener nor a mapping logic (out of the box) to bring that change back in to IFS.

If we break this down i can see two main reasons why this is not available out of the box.

  1. ”Responsible Person” in IFS is connected to HR/Person records (not a stand alone record) and MSP has no concept of, Person IDs, Employee IDs, Person to employee to User mapping, Person/Employee Validity periods nor about Security roles Hence, MSP cannot reliably send back a value that IFS can validate.

  2. As i understand it MSP export is a flat XML, not a transactional update.

I’m sure if you are to achieve this you’d have to go in the way of CRIMs and  build a small custom projection + import routine:

Hope this helps!

Cheers!
