If we have set a Specific Internal Price for a Resource/Project is there any screen that shows a Planned Cost where this is the rate used for calculation or some setting we have missed?

It looks from the field description that the Planned Cost on Project Resource Planning uses Resource Group cost rather than Specific Internal...

Thanks.

Linda

Hi Linda,

The specific internal price is picked up in Project Resource Planning however it depends on how the specific internal price has been setup - in your example this looks to have been defined by specific report codes and in order for the project resource planning line to find that specific internal price associated with the report code, then the report code needs to be included on the planning line.

This can be done by having Report Code as a Resource Criteria against the project. Note there are some restrictions on when the project’s Resource Criteria can be changed.

Once this has been defined then the corresponding field is available for editing in Project Resource Planning. The default will be the wildcard character of ‘%’.

In this example the ACT2 activity had been defined with a Specific Internal Price on the T01 report code

There was also a Standard Internal Price setup for the Resource/Report Code combination

As well as a general company cost for the Resource

Where the report code has been defined on the planning lines then the corresponding specific or standard costs are fetched, if no specific or standard costs are defined that match the resource criteria combination then it falls back to the general resource cost.

Thanks and regards

Hugh

Thanks for this, @Hugh Batho.  It’s helped unravel a lot.  Final question, if I may …

Is there a screen that shows how the calculation is reached?  We have an Activity that spans two and a half years and includes two changes of Resource Group cost within that period plus a Specific Internal Price for a period after the Activity Start Date.

Thank you

Linda

Hi Linda,

No worries.

Regarding your question then I don’t think there is. There is a drill down on the planning line to show the cost elements that make up the planning costs but, from memory, there isn’t a subsequent drill down to look at how those costs may be built up over the spreading periods as I think this is calculated when the project connections are refreshed and then just stored at that aggregated cost element level.

Thanks and regards

Hugh
