Looking for Better Alternatives to Using a Custom Event for a Unified Project Budget Approval Workflow

I’m trying to determine whether our current approach is still the best fit now that the workflow has changed regarding our budget approval process. Historically, our routing logic relied on a custom event that evaluated project category and complexity before triggering the appropriate approval path. That made sense when we had multiple routing scenarios, but we’re now moving to a single, standardized approval template that every project will follow regardless of type. Because of that shift, I’m questioning whether continuing to use a custom event is necessary or even ideal in Cloud.!--startfragment>!--startfragment>

Before we invest time in refactoring or rebuilding the event, I want to understand whether Cloud offers a more native or maintainable way to initiate this workflow. I’m particularly interested in whether anyone has replaced custom events with configuration only solutions or template level controls that eliminate the need for custom logic. If anyone has an tips or suggestions (even for external integrations) please let me know!
