Can't Increase the Project Activity duration (Early Finish Date/Work Days)
Hello IFS Community,
I'm currently facing an issue when trying to increase the ‘Early Finish Date’ or the ‘Work Days’ of a Project Activity. And the same Activity is in ‘Released’ state and some transaction have been already reported. Would you kindly help if this can be avoided or what functional limitation is blocking me ? (using IFS APP10 Upd 22). Many thanks for all your kind suggestions
Tried to increase until 2025-5-31
Summary of the cost transactions already reported on the above Activity.

Hi,
These are not the Project transactions. probably there are e.g. Time transactions that are not in the new window between early start and early finish of the activity. Which is a bit weird as you are trying to make the window greater, right?
So how did they get created in the old smaller window?
Regards Erik
Hello @EriLNL Thanks for your kind response. Actually the user would like to keep the Activity more longer time as they have some expense related transaction to be reported on the same Activity rather than making a new Activity. But the error message is not logical as we are not trying to change the Early Start Date and only tried to increase the Activity duration.
Hi Ishan,
So you are trying to increase the early finish date of the activity from 2025-05-1 to 2025-05-31.
that should always be possible, unless somehow you already got transactions outside the new window, so outside the time window between 2021-06-01 and 2025-05-31.
Could you check on the Project Transaction if there are any transactions already, outside that window?
Regards Erik
Hello @EriLNL Thanks for your kind suggestion, sure I will investigate on the Project Transaction records if they are anything reported for future dates and also keep you updated.
Hi ISD,
I am not fully sure about the cause of this error, but the time between the start and finish date is the total work days.
It could be that IFS is trying to keep the total work days at the same amount. In this case the start date will also move with 30 days.
In the current setting the total work days is 1.431 days.
When I change the start date the finish date will move automatically and the total work days will be the same.
This is all based on changing the start date, in your example you change the finish date. Then the total work days should increase and the start date should remain the same. as showed below.
My assumption is that this is not happing at your case, and therefore the transaction that have been created at the beginning of the project activity are falling outside the duration of the activity? Could this something to look into?
Kind regards,
Dennis
Hello @EqeDenniD Many thanks for your kind detailed guidance, really appreciate it. As you and @EriLNL highlighting it should be a transaction which might have reported for a future date which does not fall between the revised ‘Early Finished Date’. The investigation is underway and sure I shall keep you all posted. Thank you all.
