Traceability during Part Life Cycle (R&D vs Manufacturing)

During R&D phase Parts are created and manufactured as prototype. In this phase there is no need for tracing (like serial numbering).

After approval by the customer, the part will need to be setup for production and some parts need to be set to serial tracked. This however is only possible when there is no inventory and no orders which is almost impossible to achieve because prototype orders are still running.

So, the question is: How should IFS Cloud be configured during the part life cycle when it comes to the Master Part Traceability settings?

Hi;

The way to go ahead is to get rid of the Stocks and Open Orders as you have already figured.

So it is important to identify the Tracked parts at the design phase as part of the Design.

We can get rid of using the Serial Numbers within inventory until the real production is started by setting up Serial Tracked parts with not Tracking in Inventory as below.

Then the Serial Tracked part is not Tracked when it is in the Inventory.

When the real Production is started, we can select the option in the Part Record to Track “in Inventory” after identifying the existing Serials in the inventory as below.
