We have the following setup in Production:

Galvanization is subcontracted, so we have configured a dedicated outside operation work center for galvanization and assigned it to the routing.

Transportation to the subcontractor is also outsourced. We want to capture transportation costs against the manufactured parts, so we created a separate outside operation work center for transportation and added it to the routing as well.
When a shop order is released, purchase requisitions are automatically generated for the transportation operation. Since multiple shop orders may be shipped together, we can consolidate several transportation requisitions into a single purchase order and use one transport service for all parts being sent to the subcontractor.
The problem: Our transportation provider issues one invoice for a single transport service, regardless of the number of parts being transported.
However, the purchase order generated from the routing contains transportation service lines with quantities based on the number of manufactured parts. As a result, the transportation cost on the purchase order is calculated per piece, while the supplier invoices us for one transport event.
This means that the purchase order value frequently differs significantly from the supplier invoice, making invoice matching difficult and often impossible.
Question: What is the recommended way to set up an outsourced transportation service so that:
- The supplier invoice can be matched accurately 1:1 with the purchase order.
- Transportation costs can still be allocated and tracked against the relevant shop orders and produced parts.
- Multiple shop orders can continue to be consolidated into a single transportation service when shipped together.
Has anyone implemented a similar process, and if so, what setup or best practice would you recommend?
