we are unable to close the shop orders as we are near to closing of the month. this becomes the show stopper for us.

Why you can't close Shop Orders? Can you elaborate your issue?
Do mean for a system reason or error that you can’t close the shop order?
Or a finance imposed reason due to processing?
IFS handles transactions on a date and time stamp basis that don’t require halting most transactions except maybe on the last day of the month for Finance to have time to take certain inventory snapshots and correct errors.

You could follow the following steps to close the shop order.
RMB on the header > Close shop order
If its related to project:
If they are not connected to an activity and you would want to proceed with the flow:
After you create the SO's, you have to open the two activities and then run the refresh project connections and run the unfinished work. Once all of this was done, you can complete the project.
If the question is related to DOP:
User has unpegged DOP Shop Orders, parents and all of the component shop orders. RMB on DOP Order Header to Close, and an Error is thrown “Unable to close due to not closed component DOP Orders
Answer : Close a Parent DOP Order while it has a Supply Component DOP Order .
Leaving a component supply order open while its demand order closed is not a valid situation.
So we either has to close all the Supply DOP Orders or select the Option Close/ Branch
Then system will close the Supply DOP Orders including the selected DOP Order.
